Fashion Guru Grace Lam

July 13, 2023

Grace Lam is a super-stylish, energetic powerhouse of fashion and creativity.

Grace is one of Asia’s most prominent editors, stylists and creative consultants and was part of the original team to launch VOGUE in China.

With more than 26 years of experience working in the publishing industry in Europe and Asia, she has collaborated with fashion’s heavy weights like Edward Enninful, Annie Leibovitz, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Burberry, Dior and Estée Lauder.

Born in Hong Kong, Grace lived in London most of her life but moved to Perth in 2020, with her husband, photographer Jason Capobianco and young son.

Grace Lam loves to champion WA creatives. She’s always pushing creative boundaries to help bring WA to the world stage. Her Instagram series, 'Grace Lam Creatives,’ showcases the exceptional talents flourishing in WA. We are happy to say Grace is an AGWA Design Store fan. Below you can view Grace’s favourite Design Store offerings.

“I love the Design Store’s openness. It is bright and modern and has a super collection of international and local design,” said Grace.

Tjanpi Desert Weavers

“When you are a creative person, you appreciate and value how much effort and time goes into a handmade creation. This beautiful hand-dyed and woven sculpture is so much fun! It also supports Indigenous women and contributes to their empowerment.”

House of Zaya cap

“The message on this hat is incredibly positive and quite different to what we usually see. I love supporting women designers and congratulate Daliya Al-Said on her design.”

ÎMMØRTALË – Gold brass knuckles

“I’m a big fan of jewellery. This four-finger ring is grungy and reminds me of my London upbringing. It is so well-made and fashionable and the designer, Paris Fontana, is originally from WA. What great talent.”

Sally Gabori book

“I just love abstract art and Sally Gabori’s book just makes me happy. You can tell from the brushstrokes that there is so much emotion in her painting.”

Paradiso by Ken Leung

“Ken Leung is my brother from another mother. We have so many mutual friends, but we only met when we both came to Perth. I respect Ken and admire his work.”

Grace Lam is one of our high-profile panellists at tonight’s Art Gallery of Western Australia Pulse Forum, An Empty Canvas – A Future Without Creatives. The inaugural AGWA Pulse Forum will explore the risks of a world that doesn’t value creativity.

Award honours for the Design Store

On that note, we are extremely proud to announce the AGWA Design Store has won the Small Project Architecture Award for the Australian Institute of Architecture (AIA) WA Chapter.

The foyer and design store refurbishment reorganises and re-imagines the entry to Western Australia’s state gallery. The entire refurbishment aims to honour and the original architectural intention of the brutalist style gallery building – considered a WA icon.

Thank you to architect Nic Brunsdon, designer Ian Kanik, the team at DeCo and Noda Studio, and AGWA’s Todd Harrison.
